Sports club scoops top accolade

Harborough Athletics Club has been awarded the prestigious Sport England Clubmark.

The nationwide initiative recognises sports clubs which are safe, effective and child-friendly, and was awarded to the athletic club at a special ceremony by former athlete and gold medallist Derek Redmond.

Clubmark was developed by Sport England to improve club infrastructure, coaches and volunteers and ultimately improve the experience of members.

Rick Brown, Harborough Athletic Club captain, said: “As an established club, we saw the Clubmark route as ideal for checking the systems that allow us to manage the club and offer a safe, effective and well thought-out training programme. We are extremely proud to have been awarded the Clubmark accreditation!

“We have worked very hard on this project, particularly our junior coaches, Traci Edwards, Toni Boa and Stuart Beard. We now know we have the knowledge and support available to offer a top class service to our members and the local area. The links we have formed with England Athletics, Leicestershire Sports Partnership, Harborough District Council and other groups have been invaluable.”
